Altitude

Wow. What a night!

Yesterday our airbnb host, Ola, messaged us and asked if we wanted to go out and that he could get us on "the list" at the 1-Altitude roof top club. We said of course and what an experience!

We got there before he did and told the bouncers that we were Ola's guests and we were able to skip the line and not pay the cover (which I think was like $30/person).  Then we rode the elevator up. And up. And up. We went up so high my ears popped. Twice. The back of the elevator was clear so you could see the city getting tiny below us. We went up to the 60th floor where we had to get off and get on a different elevator which took us the final 3 floors. The elevators were really fast as this whole ride only took about a minute.

We got to the top and it was unlike anything I've ever seen or experienced before. First of all, it was a super hopping club and the music and lights were going and people were dancing. I was a bit surprised since it was a Wednesday night but apparently that's the night to go out in Singapore because it's ladies' night. We walked around to check it out and the views were incredible. You could walk the entire way around and get full 360 degree views of the night skyline and it was amazing.  Here are a couple of pictures:

Ola had also arranged a table reservation and bottle service. Ordering drinks at the bar is apparently about $20 each so if you're going to have more than a few it's more economical just to buy a bottle. We got our table and bottle of Belvedere vodka and several mixers. They also had these glowing containers of ice which they replaced for us every 15 minutes or so. I've never had bottle service before so that was awesome. It was very fancy. We hung out there for a bit just enjoying the atmosphere. It was cooler up there and a gorgeous clear night with a slight breeze; perfect weather. They also had palm trees up there which was a nice touch.

When Ola and his friend arrived he immediately arranged for a better table. The servers moved all of our drinks and things. A few minutes later Ola goes "I think this table is a bit too loud. We're moving again". They moved us again, this time to one of the best tables in the place. We could look out at the city lights and also down at the dancers on the dance floor right below us. It was great. We had so much fun drinking and hanging out with Ola and his friends. His friend that he brought, named Long, actually works for Allscripts (one of Epic's main competitors) so we had fun chatting about that for awhile. What a small world!

We eventually found out why we were getting such special treatment. Ola is good friends with the owner and he stopped by our table several times throughout the night to chat. He's also great friends with the manager who spent most of the night hanging out with us. He also knew all of the servers, so he clearly spends quite a bit of time there. He was chatting with everyone and our table was always full with different people.  It was a blast.

We went through 2 bottles of the Belvedere (I think) but Matt and I were doing pretty well not drinking too much. Definitely having fun but not sloppy or anything. The bar started to clear out around 3am so we decided to head home shortly after that. We got home and then Ola started pulling out his liquor and insisting on shots. How could we refuse? I don't know how many shots we took but based on how I felt this morning, it was a few too many.

We were getting ready to turn in when Ola announced that he was hungry. "There's a really good restaurant close by." Okay. We went there and I ordered a banana dessert thing which was the biggest dessert I've ever seen. It was delicious but I couldn't even eat half of it. We chatted about what Ola does for a living- he owns his own business that does mergers and acquisitions. I've never really understood what that actually means so I tried to learn more about that but I was probably a bit too intoxicated at that point to take much in. So I still couldn't really tell you.

So that was our big night out! We got to bed around 5am. Probably our biggest club night of the trip. We haven't even drank much on the trip since we don't want to spend the money on it and we're usually too exhausted at the end of the day anyway. But it was definitely an awesome experience and I'm so glad we did it.

Today was... less exciting. I didn't actually even leave the apartment since I was not feeling well. Matt eventually felt well enough to go get his hair cut but that's about it. We've been just relaxing and watching National Geographic on TV. Can't believe we're going to be on safari in Africa in like two weeks!
