Today we decided to check out some of the ritzy shopping areas of the city to see what they were like. We started with Roppongi Hills. It was a pretty area with lots of nice shops. There was also a pretty little garden with some flowering cherry blossoms. There wasn't a whole lot to do there though if you didn't want to actually shop.
Then we moved on to Ginza, which is one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world and had a ton of high end department stores and boutiques. They also close off the main road to traffic for most of the afternoon so pedestrians can take over the road. We walked up and down there for awhile checking out all of the different stores. We also found a ramen place to eat lunch which was a lot different than what we had a few days ago but it was really good. It was also much appreciated to eat something hot since it was cold and rainy out. We went to Ginza plaza which had the Nissan and Sony show rooms so that was interesting. We got to see some really cool cars and play with all of the new Sony gadgets. Matt found a TV he wants that's only 7 million yen.
From there we went to our last destination of the day, Odaiba. Odaiba is an artificial island in Tokyo bay across from the Rainbow Bridge. We checked out several large shopping centers there. The first was Decks, which was several floors of restuarants, normal chain stores, and also souvenir shops. Jack and I split a yummy caramel banana crepe while we were there. There were also several candy shops we browsed through and looked at all of the interesting candies that we had never seen before. We didn't buy anything but I would've liked to sample a few things there. Oh and we also saw a cookie shop where you could pay 880 yen (about $8) to eat all the cookies you want during 60 minutes. How dangerous does that sound?!
After Decks we went to the Aqua City shopping center. We found a surprise there- another Taco Bell! Matt and I couldn't resist getting a couple of tacos. There was also a cool area on the 5th floor which had all of the famous Ramen places of Tokyo all in one spot so you could try them. Jack got one of those and I sampled it; I didn't like it as much though because it had more of a seafood broth.
Then we went to Diver city shopping center, which had a huge Gundam area (don't ask me what that is because I don't really know). But it had a ton of figurine things that looked kind of similar to transformers.
Venus Fort was the next one we went to which was unique because it was a Venice-themed mall. The ceiling looks like the night sky and it feels like you're outside. There were lots of yummy looking Italian restuarants there.
Then we checked out Megaweb which is a Toyota exhibition hall. So we got to see all of the new Prius models and some of the race cars. We also got to see in some pretty swanky vans which had full recliner seats and seemed like the first class seat in an airplane.
The very last place we went was Tokyo Leisure Land which was basically a huge 24-arcade area. It had tons of arcade games, bowling, billiards, darts, karaoke, etc. We walked through this pretty quickly since we were pretty tired at this point.
Happy Saturday everyone!
