Final days as a Kiwi

Good morning everyone! What a great day this second day of March has been, so I hope it's as good for you all as well.

This morning we packed up in Te Anau and headed back to Queenstown. Along the way we stopped for a picnic lunch at a beautiful spot along the water. We've been trying to finish up all of our food since we probably won't be able to take most of it with us on our flight tomorrow.

We got to Queenstown and checked into our Hostel. We're staying at the Southern Laughter and it's pretty nice. It has free popcorn and had free vegetable soup for dinner. We're staying in a room with 2 other guys who seem pretty nice. The shower was a bit temperamental but the wifi is good so that's the important thing. :)

Then we decided to go for a hike up Queenstown hill which took us just over two hours. It was pretty steep but we got some great views at the summit. There was also a statue in the form of a metal basket at the top which was unique. They built it to celebrate the new millennium. There were also some interesting mushrooms and flowers along the way. And part of the hike was through the forest where it was really dark and quiet. Kind of a relief after hiking up in the hot sun.

After freshening up from that we went downtown to hang out for the evening. We spent some time walking around to check out the shops and restaurants before deciding on a South American one called Caribe. Everything we got there was really good. Then we headed over to Cookie Time and it was buy one get one free warm cookie! So we all got a cookie and it was delicious.

We continued walking around and wandered into the Queenstown Garden which was really pretty. There were some really huge trees there and the rose garden was beautiful.

Tonight is our last night in New Zealand and tomorrow we head to Australia! I can't believe we're wrapping up the first chapter of our adventure. :| We've greatly enjoyed our time in NZ and have enjoyed meeting so many local Kiwis through airbnb. Sad to say goodbye but excited to start the next adventure!
