It was over a 5 hour drive from Oslo to Åndalsnes but we stopped a few times to break up the drive. We stopped at Sohlbergplassen which is a good viewpoint. Unfortunately today was a bit cloudy so we couldn't see the tops of the mountains but it was still very beautiful. This was along the Rondane Tourist route which goes along the edge of the Rondane National Park. It was an absolutely gorgeous drive. When we got about an hour out from Åndalsnes we were surrounded by huge dramatic mountains which seemed to shoot straight out of the earth with vertical cliff sides. There were also a ton of waterfalls rushing down the sides of the mountains. We're assuming these waterfalls aren't there year-round but there now due to the melting snow (which we could still see snow in some areas). Sometimes the waterfalls were right next to the road! The waterfalls would join into the rushing river cutting it's way through the mountains, which the road followed most of the way.
We settled into our airbnb, which is a very old (built in 1840!) farmhouse and it's really unique. The family who lives here is very nice and they talked with us for awhile about the history of the place. It's surrounded by beautiful mountains on all sides. Then we went grocery shopping and made some dinner- broccoli chicken alfredo pasta, yum! Mom's here now so we can have food other than tacos and spaghetti! Oh when we were grocery shopping we were trying to get some bread but none of it was sliced. We were pretty confused for awhile until I realized there was a machine there that slices your bread for you! You just pick your loaf and put it in the machine to slice. Pretty nifty!
Tomorrow we get to try some Norwegian hiking- wish us luck!
